How does ethnocentrism cause conflict?

The ethnocentric views and actions of the British colonization towards the First Australians caused conflict between the two cultures. From the very beginning till the end, the views that the British held were that the First Australians were ‘barbarous’ and ‘ferocious’ and were in need, from their point-of-view, of a civilized way of life. Because the British had to colonize the land, they had to form friendly relations with the ‘natives’. Bennelong, a representative of the Aboriginal culture, helped Governor Arthur Philip to communicate with his people. Despite helping Governor Philip, Bennelong was betrayed by him and his people. Following Bennelong’s death, in his obituary, written from the British point-of-view, it says how Bennelong was still, after many years of trying, the same old animal that did not change. But Bennelong was a man who almost, for most of his time, altered his ways for the British and left his own people because of them. Bennelong wasn’t the only Aboriginal to be betrayed by the British colonists. The root of the problem started with trying to change Bennelong and branched out to the whole community. From this ethnocentric viewpoint, conflict resulted between the British and the First Australians. Over time, the British destroyed the First Australian crops to create their own food supply, wars between the two cultures broke out and the British felt that the Aboriginals were responsible for the problems that occurred. In time their relations with the natives turned worse than expected .For instance, one Aboriginal leader, Pemulwuy, was killed and beheaded. They took Pemulwuy’s head in a pickle jar back to England which was an insult to the Aboriginal people. This shows the British as ‘barbarous’ and ‘ferocious’ . All in all, the British had supremacy over everything and thought that the Aboriginals were inferior. In the end, the British ‘won’ and were successful in colonizing Australia, but for the First Australians it was a melancholic time.

How does art mirror society?

One of the paintings during the Renaissance was " The Ambassadors"by a German artist, Hans Holbein which appeared in 1533. It was painted in (made by) oil on oak. Its dimensions were 207cmx209.5cm.Actually,it is a double portrait which portrays still life of several meticulously rendered objects . It is a painting which depicts a world of power and politics, great wealth and new horizons, ambition and discord for the Renaissance. This painting shows two men,one of whom is shown as the French Ambassador to England Jean De Dintevelle. The year is 1533. On his left is George De Selve-the Bishop of Lauver dressed in velvets and silk. They were both wealthy, educated and powerful men.

This painting mirrors that the Renaissance was a time of economic trade and world exploration. The tall layered table between the men carries many different objects of the time. On the lower portion ,it shows a lute with a broken string , a hymn book and a globe. The book next to the hymn book was a very important book for merchants to calculate profit and loss.We know that the Renaissance was a time of trade and finance. There wouldn't be the culture without the trade and finance. We can also see a globe behind the book which showed that people in those days used to explore the world. It also indicates that global trade flourished in those days .The objects on upper shelf give a hint at how these explorations came to be. There's a celestial globe, quadrant, torquetum(instruments used at sea as navigational aids) and sundial. These instruments made voyages for longer durations possible and brought explorers in contact with prevailing civilizations,in additon to imparting them advanced navigational skills. Most objects were invented by medieval Arab and Jewish astronomers before coming westward. The Ambassador also seems to hold a telescope. Telescope was an instrument by which Galileo had discoverd that the sun was the center of universe. This discovery had changed religious beliefs and the whole new era of secularization had started.More scientific objects were made and improved in the Renaissance period. All these developments reflect that the renaissance was a period of awakening in which new knowledge and openings were made.

This painting by Holbien adequetly reflects the moods of the society then. How these people were drifting towards secularization, world exploration and innovation in this era.

Revenge is a desire of the narrow mind

It all started when I was in the fifth grade and moved to a new school. When these two girls came up to me the first day when I was in school and started asking who I was ,to be friends.I told them all about myself and agreed to be friends. We turned out pretty good friends in the beginning, but after sometime we became bitter enemies because of some incidents. We started our act of friendship when we first helped each other on a homework assignment, which went very well and moved on by other assignments and fun activities with everyone,it was a pretty good time back then.

But when I went to the sixth grade all the friction, commotion, chaos and revenge started,I became very bitter and harsh and showed no mercy or forgiveness. The situations changed those girls told me ,they pretended to be my friends and didn't like me which made me angry and broken that they lied and cheated me and what I gave them was my loyalty and they pay me like this , in such a bad way.It was like a glass was broken and a spoon was used and thrown in the bin for no reason. They had many fights with me and ignored me,but still I stayed loyal with my friendship. Then one day they made me so angry by telling someone else to tell me they were pretending, for a moment I thought it was true because they were pretending and the first time they started a fight I could possibly imagine anything from them while they were my friends and what they did now. They had made me so lonely, unhappy ,scared from them, made me uncertain of my strength, power and feelings and made me believe never to trust someone in my remaining life which was a good point at some extinct. Then I made the decision to take revenge,to fight for my justice and to do the right thing.

When I started taking my revenge,it made me happy, joyed and overwhelmed. I started taking my revenge by destroying there projects and beating them up and made them pay in my rain of revenge.I showed this by beating up the girl who made my life miserable until blood came from her nose and she cried ,everyone one of them ran away because they got scared. This incident had also made a negative thinker because I did work on my own without any body's help which made me happy and satisfied. So I walked on and passed my time on my own with no one which was better for me and everyone else in those days.

In those times, it was the best hobby I could think of .

Battle Of The Hastings

The game y8.com is mainly about all the battles that happened in 1066 and in this you can play anyone you like.Which is like we have to pick a team ,a battle and a level to play this. Then you have to fight with the other team depends on who you get and you always have to know your team,in order to control it and win the battle.I enjoyed the battles that I was fighting the most and also the facts in the way ,they were telling them. The things that I learned while playing this game were that Ifound the battle in a little bit of detail and learned how to play tactic games. At the battle of hastings first the Normans were unable to pierce through the massed rank of the English infantry. For six hours until late afternoon the English seemed like they were going to win.But the Normans charged again and again, but they couldn't break through he Saxon shield wall and had to go back down hill again. Then the Saxons made their fatal mistake.Later afternoon some of harold's men broke their shield wall to chase the Normans, who thought they were retreating. This was their biggest mistake because no sooner had the Normans reached the bottom of the hill, they turned round to cut the English to bits. The Norman cavalry rode among the English, hacking them down. Finally,Willam brought in his archers and Harold's luck ran out.The arrows didn't break the Saxon line, but if the Bayeux Tapestry is to be believed, one of the arrows hit Harold in the eye.The battle lasted for 6 hours. The battle took place at the Senlac Hill and the reasons why Willam won the battle were that William's army had time to rest before the battle. While Harold Godwinson's army were tired, unprepared because of the battle of Stamford that day and had to march 50 miles a day to reach and fight in the battle of hastings,Williams army had well trained solidiers where as Harold did not and Williams army pretended to flee. Many of Harold' s men broke their shield wall to chase after them. But as they did Williams army turned back and slaughtered them. This type of game is a valueable learning experience because we also learn history and have fun at the same time.

Choices we make in life and then bear with their results

The relationship between decisions and results are that both link because we make decisions and then we also have to deal with the results it gives. But it is our decision so it really matters because it can also affect others. This is seen in John Boyne's novel In the boy in Striped Pyjamas
when Bruno's mother lost Bruno because of his one decision to cross the fence and help his friend who just happened to be Jewish and literally on the other side of the fence in a concentration camp called Auschwitz.Bruno's father made the decision to go to Auschwitz .It looks like he made the decision without thinking because he didn't think of his family and as a result he got affected and so did the family. As a result he lost his son,his wife and daughter were worried and unhappy and they had no one to talk to. Then because of making poor decisions some incidents happened when it was his father 's birthday Bruno's friend Shumuel was there and

Bruno was there , he gave him some cheese. Lieutenant Kotler who was a cruel and cold hearted Nazi soldier came in and questioned Shumuel if he ate something and that Bruno knew him. Bruno, terrified by Kotler, refused to support Shumuel. Then showed lack of knowledge. Then to make up for his betrayal Bruno made the decision to cross the fence and the action that he took was to help his friend find his father ,but by doing so he was putting himself in a dangerous situation.

So decision 's can have a huge impact on you and everyone around you in any way in a good and bad way.Sometimes we are alone to make the decision and also suffer in it but sometimes others also have to suffer with it which is not fair but because it was your decision it would have changed something in an other's life.As there is a saying "For you can do whatever you want, but remember,it is also who has to face the consequences of what you have done."Which is the same thing that Bruno's father who had to face his son's death because of his decision to go to Auschwitz he lost his son and because he didn't ask the family about what he wanted and would they agree with it.

Me and my journey

Well you see the best journey is measured in friends and not in miles because on your way you meet people and become friends and its a long way round. So its better to rather think about the people in which we are rather than the seeing how long will you live in that place or how long it goes.No matter what type journey you make sure you had a good journey and make friends.Start exploring.
My life is also a really big journey as well because I have lived in many places made many friends and enemies.I have experienced and explored a lot and come along way with my parents and my friends.I have had a big experience in a place and here again I am in a new place. My journey includes everything and its the longest and hardest journey to make it through.
